Illinois Family Resource Center
Central East Alcoholism and Drug Council is pleased to introduce the Illinois Family Resource Center (IFRC). Beginning April 1, 2015, Central East Alcoholism and Drug Council implemented the first steps to the development of this statewide resource. The Family Resource Center is a project funded by the Illinois Adolescent Infrastructure and Treatment Enhancement Initiative (SAT-ED) with the intent of establishing a statewide Family Resource Center. The Illinois SAT-ED is a federal grant funded through the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration/Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (SAMHSA/CSAT). The goal of the Family Resource Center is to ensure that there is family involvement and input in all aspects of adolescent care within the Illinois substance abuse treatment system. The Family Resource Center will support the enhancement and dissemination of evidence-based substance abuse treatment and recovery support services that are made available to Illinois adolescents with substance use disorders.
The Family Resource Center is implementing procedures at the local level that address family involvement at the practice and program levels. “Lessons learned” will be disseminated across the State to increase family involvement that is focused, goal-driven and productive at the policy level through collaborative work with the Department of Human Services and partnering substance abuse treatment and community mental health agencies. The Family Resource Center will provide statewide coverage by ensuring that each of the five regions has two Family Recovery Advocates, one parent/caregiver and one youth identified to work with the Family Center’s Coordinator through serving on the SAT-ED Project Steering Committee.
As the Family Resource Center grows, it will offer a variety of resources to Illinois families and treatment providers. The website offers links to other sites making information available to assist with parenting and supporting teens. In addition, on a monthly basis helpful information will be delivered in topic columns such as “Do you know?” and “Let’s talk…” On the NEWS/EVENTS page readers will find “hot topics” and events of interest to Illinois families. The Family Resource Center will also supply information for the professionals working in the treatment and recovery system in Illinois. With all of us working together, Illinois can strengthen the success of our teens and their families in recovery!
